About modernist jewellery
Modernist jewellery is the abstract, sculptural studio work made by artist-jewellers in the middle of the twentieth century, when silver became a medium for modern design rather than tradition. Pieces are often signed with a studio name or initials rather than a famous brand, and many were made in small numbers, so we describe each one by what its marks and its design show and never guess at a name. Look for confident, hand-finished forms, a clear "925" or "Sterling" mark, and solid construction at the clasp or bail.
